We have all had to alter our summer plans a little bit because of COVID-19. So, many people are turning to staycation options to enjoy summer fun with friends and family. Thankfully, we live in an incredible region here in Loveland and Northern Colorado. There are so many destinations nearby you can still enjoy safely! It was hard to narrow it down to just three, but here are a few of my favorite day trips near Loveland, Colorado.
Day Trip to Estes Park, Colorado
Estes Park is always a popular summer destination for out-of-towners because of Rocky Mountain National Park and all of the other fun activities to do there. But, it’s a great place for local NoCo residents to go as well. And, even though it’s still been drawing a crowd this summer, there are plenty of ways to enjoy it while keeping your distance. You can find lots of great hikes for all levels around the town. There are also limited permits available to enter Rocky Mountain National Park. Or, you could take a nice trail ride at Elkhorn Stables or rent a paddleboard at Lake Estes.
Day Trip to the Poudre Canyon
The Poudre Canyon, just west of Fort Collins, Colorado offers lots of popular outdoor activities that make for a perfect day trip. You can take it easy with a picnic, and get your toes wet in the river at Picnic Rock. Or, make it thrilling by taking a whitewater rafting trip with one of the many guiding companies in the area. Locals and visitors alike also love the canyon for its popular hikes like Grey Rock. There’s outdoor rock climbing too! When you’re done with a day of play in the Poudre Canyon, you can always grab a growler to go from one of your favorite Fort Collins breweries!
Day Trip to Denver, Colorado
This could definitely be a whole blog post on its own! But suffice it to say, we love that Loveland is just an hour from Denver. There are so many fun things to do there! And while some of the usual attractions haven’t been able to open yet, like Elitch Gardens, many of them are just operating under modified and stricter regulations. The Denver Zoo, Downtown Aquarium, and the Denver Botanic Gardens are all operating at some level and are worth the day trip!
Of course, we realize some people may want to or need to avoid these larger gathering places for the time being. We totally understand. That’s why we are so thankful for the nearby Rocky Mountains and all the other outdoor options for amazing day trips near Loveland, Colorado!
Hoping to stick around town instead? Check out these local Loveland lakes for a mini stay-cation!
