This week’s Loveland Hot Spot is Devil’s Backbone! We love the great outdoors in Colorado. Having this gorgeous hike so close to town makes it a Loveland local favorite!
If you’ve ever driven west of Loveland on Highway 34, you have definitely glimpsed the iconic, ridge-like rock features of Devil’s Backbone. This open space adventure boasts lots of parking, a leisurely hiking loop, and designated trails for mountain bikes and horses. For the more adventurous, the trails at the Backbone connect to Rim Rock Open Space and Horsetooth Mountain.
This is my favorite go-to when I’m hiking with my kids. My six year old loves to amble up to the Keyhole, where you can see for miles into far West Loveland and Masonville!
For those who would like a shorter hike, there is also a shorter loop on the south side of the parking lot. This is great for younger kids!
Also, be sure to pack a lunch! Once you’re done with your hike (or bike ride, or horseback ride), check out the large covered pavilion with picnic tables. Go solo, or take the whole family!
