Tight budget? We hear you! But, one fantastic thing about living here is there are so many free things to do in Loveland, CO! And as a mom with three boys, we do our fair share of free activities! Whether it’s a free date night or a fun family outing, here are our favorite free things to do around town.
Loveland Museum Gallery
The Loveland Museum Gallery is a Loveland destination that just does not get old. General admission is free, and there are lots of educational exhibits about the city’s past, our role as the Sweetheart City, and frequently rotating galleries celebrating local and traveling artists. There is a featured gallery that does have a cost for admission. But the admission is low—$7 per patron over 14 years old—and the exhibits they host are pretty impressive. The Loveland Museum Gallery can be part of a date night too. Pre-COVID, gallery openings would include wine and cheese nights and artist talks. So be on the lookout for these types of events to return in the future.
Visit a Sculpture Park
Loveland is home to not one, but two impressive, free outdoor sculpture parks— Benson Sculpture Garden and Chapungu Sculpture Park. Benson Sculpture Park features over 170 bronze works from sculptors all over the globe. The pieces are spread out over 10 acres, which makes for a beautiful evening walk or lunch break. The park is so nationally significant that it’s been named “one of the 20 must-see contemporary art sites across the USA.”
Sitting just to the east of the Shops at Centerra, Chapungu Sculpture Park is another local treasure. The park features an impressive selection of stone sculptures from Zimbabwe on 26 acres. And besides perusing the sculptures, the location hosts many free community events and concerts throughout the year. Perhaps the most well-loved of these events is the Loveland Winter Wonderlights featuring an amazing lights show and local entertainment.
Go for a Hike
Located right against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Loveland is the perfect place to get into nature while barely having to leave the city limits. Devil’s Backbone Open Space is a local favorite, with no admission fee and 12 miles of trail that connect to Rimrock Open Space. Prairie Ridge Natural Area is a new hiking area in Loveland, just to the northwest of town. An accessible path leads up the first foothill and connects to the Ridge to Ridge Trail. Or check out my favorite dog-friendly hikes!
These are just a few of the free things you can do in Loveland, but they are some of our favorites, to be sure! If we missed any of your favorite free activities, let us know what they are in the comments!
